Forró in Floripa SUNDAY SPECIAL - October Edition!

Autumn is upon us, so it is time to warm up Floripa once again!. We are looking forward to bringing you a night of the best forró pe de serra to keep you dancing all night long, with four forró DJs taking to the stage.

All of our DJs have a range of experience playing for some of the biggest festivals in the world, to smaller local parties. There is guaranteed to be something for everybody!

ABOUT DJ JHEFAO

Born and bred in São Paulo, Jhefao now lives in London where he has been building his career in the world of forró.

Since 2011 he has toured countless forró festivals from the north to the south of Brazil.

His influences range from great masters such as Luiz Gonzaga and Ary Lobo, through iconic groups such as Trio Nordestino and Trio Dona Zefa, to outstanding female names such as Marlene Vidal and Marinalva. Each of these artists has moulded their repertoire and their performances, which are known for combining tradition and energy.

Today, he is recognised not only for his vast knowledge and musical curation, but also for his genuine commitment to forró, whether on the decks or on the dance floor.

ABOUT DJ CHINEDU

Chinedu (London, UK) began to take an interest in Forró in January 2013 when his capoeira teacher took him to a party. Starting off as an absolute beginner with no background in partner dancing, he was drawn to the community aspect of Forró, the music and the positive attitude of all the people he encountered. This fuelled his appetite for dance, travel, and musical discovery! 

Fast forward to 2015, after experiencing classes, parties and festivals across Europe and Brazil, he began to hold his own parties in London and in 2016, formed the organisation, Forró Foundations (www.forrofoundations.com). Forró Foundations’ teaching methodology centres around further enhancing basics and footwork, applying these methods to increase dancers’ confidence in their movement and making the overall dance enjoyable, comfortable and exciting for both partners. 

As well as teaching and organising events, he is an internationally recognised Forró DJ. He has played across the globe at festivals such as the Forró London Festival, Forró Vem Vem Festival (Weggis & Luzern), Forró de Colonia Festival, Forró Stockholm’s Alegria do Norte Festival and the Forró em Lyon Marathon to name but a few! As well as these European festivals close to home, he has also played at some of the wrold's largest forró events including Buraco do Tatu (Itaunas, Brazil), Rootstock (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) as well as a number of parties in Salvador where he lived for a some time.

ABOUT DJ ANDY

Andy discovered forró in Brazil in 2005 and quickly became addicted the music and dance. In 2007 he started his own forró night called "Forró Play" before teaming up with his sister to co-create Forró Family in 2009. His forró musical taste favours clear heavy deep vocals and bass but equally loves some of the passionate tunes of times gone by. 

ABOUT DJ XUXA

DJ Xuxa is well liked and loved in the London Forró Community and has recently started acting as selecta at the summer Forró Regent's park events. A relative newcomer to DJ'ing, he still has a vast knowledge of forró music and culture, and the crowd always looks forward to his selection of songs.

We will also have a FREE FORRÓ CLASS from 5.30pm - 6.00pm, just to warm people up before the party starts. You are all invited to Forró in Floripa!!!
